This is a list of programs I’ve found very useful and think everyone should know about, for the most part all of these packages are in the Ubuntu repo’s. These are in no order from best to least.

- liquidwars - addictive, you’re a ocean of dots trying to eat the other oceans of dots

- gtk-theme-switch - Just as good as gtk-chtheme but you have the ability to install archive files with it

- Nitrogen - Background switcher
- brasero - create a audio cd, data project, burn a cd image, or copy CDs/DVDs or create a image file of them.
- cheese - Takes a video or a picture with your webcam
- beagle - Best search tool, with drag and drop support
- catfish - Runner up for best search tools
- obmenu - A GUI for editing Openbox’s menu

- gcal - Great little calendar
- htop - System monitor
- mc - Simply the best file manager, besides cd, ls, rm, cp, etc..
- tree - lists a dir in a tree view, also has the capabilities of making a index.html file
- toilet - Prints big text in the terminal, works great for when you need to shout at someone on IRC
