It just occurred to me that i haven’t wrote about Ubuntu, well here goes! I’ve been using Ubuntu as my desktop for about half a year now, and i can’t express how much i love it. I can change and edit every aspect of Ubuntu unlike i could in windows, right now I don’t use Windows period. I just love messing around and editing things on my computer. Ubuntu has introduced me into Linux holding my hand, at first I was afraid to leave Windows, but after you really leave Microsoft completely you become more independent as a person, and at computing.
History
My first time using Ubuntu was 6.06 Dapper Drake, i ordered it from the Shipit service. It took two weeks to get to my house, which was understandable for free and from coming all the way from Europe. As soon as i got it i booted it, and no i did not fall in love at first site, and no i do not mean the graphics i didn’t love. I was pretty much very new to Linux at that time and was not as technical as i am now. I was concerned with little things such as playing mp3s and such.. it was so new to me. Now i know how to fix those little things because i made the change. But not until 7.10, i knew about 7.04 was out, but at the time i was a little disappointed, and i was also looking at other distros. More or less i was distro ‘testing’ for a year or so. It took me a while just to install and use a distro.
Now
By the time 7.10 came out i was ready to try Ubuntu again, and thank god i did! What got me over was the fact i had a new computer (with a Nvidia graphics card) and the eye candy. I know this sounds typical of someone new to Linux, but once I got past the “Wow!” effect of comppiz fusion I started learning. Ubuntu is my #1 distro of choice in a lot of areas, ease of use and so many options.
The Coming Up
Hardy Heron is coming and I can’t wait, can you say stability? I’ve had Gutsy Gibbon since about December of 07, and reinstalled Ubuntu once on my desktop, and I’m in serious need to reformat again, due to Ubuntu sometimes acting up on new hardware, this is mostly my fault for installing tons of packages without uninstalling them. I’m waiting for Hardy to come out to reformat, I haven’t really used Hardy Heron much but my hopes are they fixed the little issues ‘everyone’ had in Gutsy Gibbon, I personally have not had a lot of issues as other people have had.
I really can’t wait for 8.10 Intrepid Ibex of course for the eye candy to improve a little bit more and a new theme! For Hardy we got a new theme, great right? I personally don’t care for the new orange color theme, but its just the though. I’ve seen the concept art for Hardy Heron here, my favorite is this one.
I just adore Ubuntu ![]()
